Join the PICE-LNM Discover CE Photo-Video Making Contest

Guidelines for the PICE-LNM Photo-Video Making Contest:
Discover Civil Engineering @ YouTube
  1. The competition is open to civil engineering schools and universities in Manila through the civil engineering student organizations (e.g. PICE Student Chapters, ACES, CES, Aggregates, etc).

  2. Each school can submit a maximum of three entries. The entries must be endorsed by any of the following: College Dean, Department Chair or Faculty Adviser.

  3. Create a short video combining photos, images, graphics, video clips, animation, interviews, sound effects, music and narration using a video editing software such as Windows Movie Maker, Power Director, etc.

  4. The first slide should display the title: DISCOVER CIVIL ENGINEERING : A Public Awareness Campaign by the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers – Lungsod ng Maynila Chapter. The next slide will be the specific title of the video and the last slide will show the names of the authors and acknowledgements (including copyright permits, if any).

  5. The video file must run using the Windows Media Player. The running time of the video should be not more than four (4) minutes.

  6. Copyright/Royalty: To avoid copyright problems, use original or “public domain” photos/video clips. For the music, use “royalty-free music” or compose your own music. Free royalty free music and sounds can be downloaded at http://www.royaltyfreemusic.com/. Note if YouTube rejects the video or music (due to copyright, royalty music etc.), the entry will be disqualified.

  7. The general theme of the video revolves on the practice and relevance of the civil engineering profession to society. A focus on Philippine society is encouraged.. The movie can focus on general or specific issues such as : Civil engineering and infrastructure development, Role of civil engineering in poverty alleviation, Civil engineering, Sustainability and the Environment, Civil engineering, Natural Hazards and Disasters, Civil engineering, Computers and IT, Civil engineering and women, Civil engineering education and curriculum, Civil Engineering and Public Safety, Civil engineering for kids, Specializations in Civil Engineering (structural, construction, water, transportation, geotechnical), Local issues related to civil engineering (e.g. traffic, local projects, disaster rehab, etc.)

  8. Deadline: Submit a CD containing the video clip to PICE-LNM office with a write-up or summary of about 150 words and the endorsement by the dean, chair or faculty adviser on or before August 15, 2009. Note if the YouTube rejects the video (due to copyright, royalty music etc.), the entry will be disqualified. So it is better to check first if YouTube will accept your video with music before submitting to PICE-LNM office.

  9. Judging & Selection: The top video clips (the number will depend on the committee) will be selected by a screening board composed of PICE-LNM directors and members based on the following criteria:
(30%) Theme – promotes the relevance of civil engineering to society
